February was a busy month for Gusher as they completed an order for 38 Vortex pumps bound for Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, Kentucky. The order was sold through Ruthman Companies’ division Great Lakes Pumps & Supply to Durr Systems for new paint systems being installed at the plant.
With an annual capacity of 550,000 vehicles, Toyota Georgetown is the company’s largest vehicle manufacturing plant. The plant produces the popular Camry and Avalon models, as well as the first US-made Lexus, the ES 350.
No plant can afford downtime due to clogged and failed pumps. With Toyota operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, an interruption on the paint line due to a failed pump could be costly. That’s why Durr chose Gusher Vortex Pumps for the paint sludge recapture on its paint overspray separation system. With the ability to handle large diameter solids and fibrous material without clogging, Vortex pumps can easily manage paint solids and other sludge pit debris.
Durr needed 3 different Vortex models to suit the Toyota application, with varying intake and discharge sizes. As Vortex pumps come in 8 sizes ranging from 2×2-8 to 6×8-15, with up to 400 foot head and capacities of up to 2800 GPM, Gusher was able easily meet their needs. Vortex pumps are robust, with a design that allows throttling to a low performance range unacceptable to many centrifugal pumps.
The Vortex pumps are not the first Ruthman Companies’ pumps at Toyota Georgetown-there are a number of Gusher horizontal and vertical pumps on the plant’s paint lines.
