If there’s any application where performance is critical, it’s in a nuclear power plant. From the reactors on down, each piece of equipment plays a role in the plant’s safe operation. When main power goes down, the backup generators must reliably come on and take over. After extensive testing, an order of Gusher SC Series pumps has been cleared for use on a plant’s emergency diesel power generators.
In a sale facilitated by Gusher distributor, HMFT, the pumps were commissioned by Canadian electrical systems engineering firm Kinetrics. One of the key factors influencing Gusher’s selection for this project was its onsite testing capabilities and flexibility to manufacture and test pumps to exacting requirements.
Five SC Series pumps (3 for service and 2 in reserve), were ordered with customer-supplied DC motors. All stainless casings were chosen to meet the pressure rating guaranty and to guard against any possible rust or corrosion.
Each pump had to be tested in real-use conditions (pumping diesel fuel) using both Gusher and Kinetrics-supplied instrumentation, with extensive documentation throughout. All pumps were within a half a percent of each other on performance and exceeded the rated gpm and pressure specs.
On receipt, Kinetrics subjected the pumps to another rigorous round of testing. Gusher guaranteed the all stainless pump casings to a rated pressure of 150psi. Kinetrics tested the pump all the way up to 220 psi, and it passed–far exceeding the original specifications. The reliable performance of these pumps is a testament to Gusher’s stringent engineering and manufacturing processes, as well as its flexibility to accommodate custom project requirements.
